Fergie prepares bid for Henry
Manchester United are to launch a bid for Barcelona's Thierry Henry ahead of their Premier League opener on August 17.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who will lead his side out against Newcastle United next Sunday, has made Barca star Henry his main target after seemingly failing in his attempt to sign Tottenham front man Dimitar Berbatov.
The United supremo is now believed to be in the throws of putting together an offer for Henry, a deal thought to be in the region of $US40million.
With United's constant courting of Bulgaria international Berbatov now apparently at an end, Ferguson, a long-term admirer of Henry, is desperate to add some more firepower to his Old Trafford squad.
Henry, who has won 102 caps for France, dazzled the Premiership during his eight seasons with Arsenal, constant high profile displays that made Ferguson a firm fan of the Gallic favourite.
Since moving to Barcelona in 2007, Henry has continued to shine, bagging 19 goals for the Nou Camp side last season. Not surprisingly, the 30-year-old's fine form has stirred United's interest as they attempt to retain both their Premier League and UEFA Champions League crowns.
Newspaper reports in England have also claimed that Ferguson is convinced that the injury woes which were synonymous with Henry's final days in England, are well and truly a thing of the past.
